Reminds me of when Bird said “Master your instrument, master music, then forget it all and just play”. I was fortunate to have played a bunch of gigs with Victor Wooten in the ’90’s, before Bela Fleck and much of his fame. He played great, but had not yet developed all the great techniques he uses today.
