Here’s another great solo transcription from John Blevins. Â John has graciously sent me a number of his transcriptions and given me permission to share them with the sax world on my site here. This is another great sax solo by Bob Mintzer. Â The tune is My Romance from the 1988 album “Spectrum”. Â My Romance is a popular jazz standard and can be found in most Real Books.
John didn’t include the chords in this transcription but for the most part this arrangement follows the general chord change in the Real Book although the tune is usually 32 measures long and Mintzer’s arrangement is 36 measures long. Â Mintzer adds an extended pedal section that extends the tune for 4 extra measures. Â This added extension happens throughout the recording and starts on measure 29. Â I did my best to try to figure out the chords for those 8 measures and this is what I came up with:
C/G Â 2 measures
F-/GÂ Â 2 measures
B/GÂ Â 2 measures
D-7/GÂ Â for the last 2 measures
Bob is one of my favorite tenor sax players so this is a treat to check out. Â The transcription starts at the beginning of the recording with the melody.
