This is another classic Peter Ponzol M2 tenor mouthpiece. I’ve played about 5-6 of these and they were all great. This one is a .110 tip opening which feels perfect for me. They have a brightness and kick to them that really comes out when you are on the gig.
I’ve played many of these on gigs and they always sound great. They have the brightness and power that you need when you are performing live without getting thin sounding. It also has a rich tone to it that other bright mouthpieces lack. I actually have a few friends that play in the New England area with these that get an incredible sound with them. Sounds great. What is that you are playing at 1:22? That riff in 5ths sounds like a tune I’ve heard before…
No idea. I was just improvising. Alternating between a E minor and F minor sound.
Sounds nice. I’m trying to get a nice rich fat tone with my brass M2 .100 tip. Was playing on a 3 rico. But I went down due to the trouble from playing the piece. I think getting use to the chamber is the biggest thing. Any tips?
I have been playing a Ponzol brass M2 tip 110 for about a year and half. I use Rico Select Jazz 2 MED and I love the piece. I can play nice and soft using subtones or I can push as hard as I can and the mouthpiece maintains a wonderful tone and doesn’t break up. Many of my other mouthpieces I have tried over the years break up when I push hard but not this one. I would recommend it to anyone.
I have been playing a Ponzol M2 for about 2 years. I was looking for a bright tone and was prepared to spend what was needed when I found in my daughter’s saxophone case a used Ponzol M2 (she had her Selmer SAII tenor shipped from abroad thanks to Ebay). It is very edgy and exactly what I needed for my big band (I also have a Vandoren Java T75, but it sounds much softer compared to the M2). However I miss some richness in the sound and am eagerly waiting for my new Guardala MBII (LT) to arrive so I can get the fatter sound it allegedly offers together with its edgy sound. Marcos, I believe it does but am not sure about that. Maybe try contacting Peter Ponzol and asking him? I don’t believe the gold ones are made anymore so your only hope might be looking on eBay until one pops up there………(Ponzol makes just the silver ones now……)
I love my 110 m2 on my Yamaha Z – just blows a beautiful full horn.
Hi Steve, I’ve been playing the Ponzol M2 forever, in many years I’ve never found anything up to par. In addition to the sound and volume qualities, I have always been impressed by the ease of use, when playing it all the muscles of the mouth can remain absolutely relaxed and the bite absolutely light. For some time I have been looking for a alto mouthpiece that can give the same feeling and that can be equally light and immediate. Do you think it exists??
