Drake Vintage Resin NY Jazz Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece
Yesterday, I received a box from Aaron Drake at Drake Mouthpieces. I couldn’t open it fast enough. Inside were 3 brand new vintage resin alto saxophone mouthpieces for me to try. I’ve been wanting to try these for months now and I was very excited. This is the second mouthpiece I tried of the three. It is the NY Jazz model and has a 6 tip opening (.080).The NY Jazz model has a medium rollover baffle that slides down into a medium chamber. This mouthpiece has the fattest sound of the three Drake alto mouthpieces I received. It reminds me of a Cannonball Adderley type of sound. Big and fat with a nice sparkle to the sound. Drake Vintage Resin Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece Comparison
I thought I’d put up a comparison post of the three Drake vintage resin alto saxophone mouthpieces I received today. I will be doing a separate review for each mouthpiece but I thought that if I played a simple melody on all 3 next to each other you could hear the differences better. On these clips I’m playing the first 16 bars of “Stella By Starlight”. Nothing fancy, just the melody. Hopefully, you will be able to hear the differences in the tone of each mouthpiece. Let me know what you think……………………

Drake Vintage Resin Contemporary Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece
I’m starting to get overwhelmed by how many great mouthpieces are out there today. This morning I received a box from Aaron Drake at Drake Mouthpieces. I couldn’t open it fast enough. Inside were 3 brand new vintage resin alto saxophone mouthpieces for me to try. I’ve been wanting to try these for months now and I was very excited. The first one I played was this one. It is the contemporary model and has a 6 tip opening (.080). It has a high long baffle in it that scoops into the chamber sort of like a Berg or RPC mouthpiece would. There’s no edges on the decline of the baffle into the chamber. The high baffle gives this mouthpiece a brighter, punchier sound that is great for modern playing…………………..

Drake Vintage Resin Jazz Tenor Mouthpiece
This is a new tenor saxophone mouthpiece I received in the mail last week from Aaron Drake. Drake mouthpieces have been around for a number of years and Aaron is best known for his Ceramic mouthpieces which I have reviewed here before. Recently, he has updated his website www.DrakeMouthpieces.com and come out with a new line of mouthpieces made out of “vintage resin”. Aaron sent me 3 tenor mouthpieces to try:
VRJT – Jazz Tenor (passaround model)
SSJT – Son of Slant (medium chamber)
NYJT – NY Jazz tenor (prototype – unbanded)
This review is of the Jazz model tenor saxophone mouthpiece.
