This is the 7DD model that Fred Lamberson makes out of white acetal. It has a long high baffle like the Guardalas I have played. This is my brightest tenor mouthpiece at the moment. It is very focused and penetrating, cuts right through the mix. This is the tenor mouthpiece I play on the video “Let’s Get It On” on the Sights and Sounds Page.(You need Quicktime in order to see it). I played this mouthpiece for about a year as I remember. I always felt great about it on the gig but whenever I was in a room practicing or teaching, I couldn’t stand it. It just sounded too bright and piercing to me. i remember playing into a wall once and the sound was so loud that it hurt my ears. I actually felt ringing in my ears. I’m not saying this is bad but I’m just warning you that this piece can be pretty darn loud so be careful……listen……………

Sounds like running on ice with bare feet. Very complex sound with tons of partials. Sounds difficult to control. Not my favorite clip.
Steve, I’ve been playing the 7DD for about 10 years and I love it. As an older player I find it’s so easy blowing that I use up less energy on a gig. With the right Reed , I use Vandoren Red 21/2 it can be controlled. If you want volume, no problem it’s there as well as a subtone when needed.
Sam, I agree. I played a Lamberson 7DD for a year on all sorts of gigs. It’s bright and powerful enough to cut through and wail on but you can lay back on it and it sounds pretty sweet on jazz stuff also. Steve
