Dave Jary HR Metal “Killer” Tenor Mouthpiece

August 14, 2009 by Steve 2 Comments

I received this from a friend of mine to try.  It is one of Dave Jary’s hard rubber pieces. He calls them “Metal Killers”.  I assume because although they are hard rubber they have tons of power.  Dave Jary sent me an email describing his business to me.  Here’s part of what he wrote: “I make each of my tenor mouthpieces individually to the customers preferences.  I am happy to work closely with each customer to get a feel for their sound and performance preferences.  Baffle and chamber work to achieve the desired sound etc.).” He made this tenor mouthpiece for a customer who was looking for a piece with extra projection and edge to cut through on the loud stuff.   It really has some nice power to it when pushed but it doesn’t get thin sounding.  It’s a bit brighter than I would naturally prefer.  Because of the way it plays I opted for a little funkier sound clip.

I really appreciate the sound of this ” metal killer.” I found one on eBay for $90. I’ve always had Berg Larson for tenors. Someone wanted my horn and mpc pretty bad. Lifted horn and mpc, from my Church. Had to buy a horn and mpc after loosing big. Your review on this cheep mp is music to my ears. You sound like I do…wanting great sound and control of Berg Larson 105/3. Incidently, my Berg came off the shelf with reg price in 1973, $37.50. Can’t do it today. Thanks

Your churches insurance should have covered it!

Lost 2 trumpets, and a sax to church theft once, all covered by insurance. Should give you NEW value to purchase replacements!
