Learning From a Transcription Lesson

There are thousands of transcriptions of jazz solos available on the internet these days.  If you are like me, you might have binders and binders of these solos that you have downloaded and collected.  These solos can be a great resource for young improvisers but you have to first learn how to analyze these solos and secondly, how to work on them so you get the most out of them.

In this lesson, I take a transcription off the internet……..a solo by Bob Mintzer on “All the Things You Are”.  (You can get the solo from Charles McNeals website under “other solos”).
I work through the solo and talk about the elements used by Mintzer while soloing.   I then show you how I would go about working on these different elements in my own playing.
