{"id":7812,"date":"2013-04-05T09:38:21","date_gmt":"2013-04-05T14:38:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.neffmusic.com\/blog\/product\/running-the-chords-lesson\/"},"modified":"2019-08-13T13:05:17","modified_gmt":"2019-08-13T17:05:17","slug":"running-the-chords-lesson","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/www.neffmusic.com\/blog\/product\/running-the-chords-lesson\/","title":{"rendered":"Running the Chords Lesson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In many of my lessons, I talk about &#8220;running the chords&#8221; on the saxophone.\u00a0 On the piano or guitar you can play the chords to a tune and hear there qualities and motion.\u00a0 On the saxophone you obviously can not play chords&#8230;&#8230;but you can &#8220;run the chords&#8221;.\u00a0 This is a method I use to have students learn the chords to a song by using arpeggios.<\/p>\n<p>As an example, I use &#8220;On Green Dolphin Street&#8221; to show you how to do this in 6 steps.\u00a0 Running the chords from the root, back down from the 7th,in a random way,running the chords without the roots, from the 9th and then randomly again.<\/p>\n<p>This is a great exercise to use to practice and internalize the chords to a song.\u00a0\u00a0 It is also a great way to break away from being enslaved by the roots of each chord.\u00a0 I demonstrate everything on the tenor saxophone but this lesson can be applied to every instrument.\u00a0\u00a0 I have included a simple PDF of the chords in the key of Bb, Eb and C.
