{"id":7620,"date":"2013-04-05T09:38:06","date_gmt":"2013-04-05T14:38:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.neffmusic.com\/blog\/product\/diatonic-fourth-patterns-lesson\/"},"modified":"2019-08-13T23:09:36","modified_gmt":"2019-08-14T03:09:36","slug":"diatonic-fourth-patterns-lesson","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/www.neffmusic.com\/blog\/product\/diatonic-fourth-patterns-lesson\/","title":{"rendered":"Diatonic Fourth Patterns Lesson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Diatonic fourth patterns are a must for any serious student of jazz.\u00a0 Years ago I remember hearing recordings of Eddie Harris and Joe Farrell from the 70&#8217;s.\u00a0 They were using larger intervals in there solos that sounded really interesting and cool to me but I wasn&#8217;t sure what they were doing.\u00a0 Later,\u00a0 I found out that they were using lines with fourths in them.\u00a0 The reason fourths are so distinct and unique sounding is that they break away from the interval of the third that is so common in jazz.\u00a0\u00a0 Playing lines in fourths breaks away from the common third and creates lines that are very different sounding.\u00a0 They are valuable because they give you\u00a0 melodic material you can use that is unique and modern sounding.\u00a0 By working on your diatonic fourths you will\u00a0 equip yourself with a thorough knowledge of the major scale as you improve your technique.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In this lesson,\u00a0 I show you 4 common patterns using diatonic fourths.\u00a0 The key to getting more advanced lines into your improvisation is to first master these diatonic fourth patterns by getting them under your fingers and in your ears.\u00a0 I give you all the tips on how to best do this and demonstrate them for you on the soprano sax with some background music.
