There is nothing cooler than having your approach notes mastered!\u00a0 Back about 10 years ago, I had decided that I really needed to get my act together and start practicing again.\u00a0 I decided to pick one main focus and to practice like crazy.\u00a0 The area of jazz improvisation I picked was Approach Note patterns.\u00a0\u00a0 I wrote out every conceivable approach note pattern I could think of in the key\u00a0 of C and started practicing.\u00a0 Soon I found myself totally freed up and liberated from playing my old cliche lines and patterns.\u00a0 I was playing new lines and ideas and my technique was better than ever……..<\/p>\n
Out of that experience came my “Approach Note Velocity” books.\u00a0 As I started giving online video lessons, I started receiving requests to do some lessons on this approach note concept.\u00a0\u00a0 This is a new series that I’m starting to teach how to work through the “Approach Note Velocity” material.\u00a0 In this series I will take you step by step through the process in each lesson.\u00a0\u00a0 I have found that many students enjoy how the approach note concept sounds but when it comes to applying it to their playing it can be difficult.\u00a0 This\u00a0 will be a step by step lesson series where I walk you through the process of how to learn and integrate these concept into your own playing.\u00a0 In order to get the most out of this series you will need the “Approach Note Velocity” books, Jamey Aebersold Vol. 24 “Major and Minor”and\u00a0 Jamey Aebersold Vol. 21 “Getting it Together”.\u00a0 This an introductory lesson where I talk about the concept and how the lessons will progress.\u00a0 I demonstrate the materials on alto for this lesson.<\/p>\n
