{"id":90474,"date":"2020-02-24T13:07:02","date_gmt":"2020-02-24T18:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.neffmusic.com\/blog\/?p=90474"},"modified":"2020-02-25T15:19:53","modified_gmt":"2020-02-25T20:19:53","slug":"the-secret-super-power-of-a-slow-learner-derek-brown-beatbox-sax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.neffmusic.com\/blog\/2020\/02\/the-secret-super-power-of-a-slow-learner-derek-brown-beatbox-sax\/","title":{"rendered":"The Secret Super Power of a Slow Learner-Derek Brown-Beatbox Sax"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Derek Brown has a Youtube channel called &#8220;Beatbox\u00a0Sax&#8221;. \u00a0While most of us mere mortals are just trying to figure out how to play the sax the normal\u00a0way (or should I say the way that is most &#8220;common&#8221;), Derek is one of those rare individuals that\u00a0is breaking new ground with the saxophone. \u00a0Check out the two videos below and you will quickly realize that this guy is not your average sax player.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dpOjubVQVac\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8LEuTnykXp4\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It is obvious that Derek Brown is a master of what we call extended techniques for the saxophone. \u00a0When I was a young student at Ithaca College \u00a0studying classical saxophone I heard some of these classical techniques used in more modern classical saxophone pieces. \u00a0I thought they were strange sounding and wasn&#8217;t sure what to make of them. \u00a0Derek is taking many of those same techniques and using them for a very different result though. \u00a0I have to give the guy props, \u00a0the amount of time and practice he must have used to master these different elements and techniques just boggles my mind.
