{"id":617,"date":"2009-08-14T11:40:08","date_gmt":"2009-08-14T16:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.neffmusic.com\/blog\/?p=617"},"modified":"2014-01-16T22:43:46","modified_gmt":"2014-01-17T03:43:46","slug":"greg-weir-gw-slant-7-tenor-mouthpiece","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.neffmusic.com\/blog\/2009\/08\/greg-weir-gw-slant-7-tenor-mouthpiece\/","title":{"rendered":"Greg Wier GW Slant 7* Tenor Mouthpiece"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span>I received this on trial from another SOTW member. \u00a0There was a thread on it that has since been closed where there was quite a bit of disagreement about this mouthpiece. \u00a0I was intrigued and curious so when I saw one for sale I asked if I could try it.<\/span> I have to say that I was very surprised by this piece.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/public.neffmusic.com\/GWSlant.JPG\" rel=\"shadowbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0pt none; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px;\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/images\/stories\/easygallery\/88888894\/GWSlant.JPG\" width=\"400\" height=\"280\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It is a great tenor mouthpiece and in my opion plays just as advertised. \u00a0GW advertises it on ebay as a copy of a slant signature otto link but with a little more power and projection. \u00a0 I don&#8217;t own a slant but I do have an Early Babbitt link that I have been told has the same body as the slants did. \u00a0 The Early Babbitt \u00a0is one of my favorite tenor mouthpieces. \u00a0I played the GW side by side with the EB and I have to say it was pretty close which is a great compliment because the Early Babbitt cranks. The GW Slant piece is a tad warmer and darker to my ears. It has a nice roudness to the tone that I enjoyed. It is not stuffy at all and plays very easily throughout the range up into the altissimo. It does have a nice singing quality to the high notes that I really like when I push it without getting bright which some mouthpieces do. I could see myself getting use to this piece and playing tons of standards on it. Beautiful sounding. The beak of it is a tad higher than my EB link buts that&#8217;s really not that big a deal to get use to. I don&#8217;t know GW but I think this is great work by him. Take a listen for yourself and you can decide.
