{"id":5672,"date":"2011-11-09T12:05:15","date_gmt":"2011-11-09T17:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.neffmusic.com\/blog\/?p=5672"},"modified":"2014-01-16T14:58:20","modified_gmt":"2014-01-16T19:58:20","slug":"kanee-professional-series-florida-tenor-saxophone-mouthpiece","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.neffmusic.com\/blog\/2011\/11\/kanee-professional-series-florida-tenor-saxophone-mouthpiece\/","title":{"rendered":"Kanee Professional Series Florida Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Today I am reviewing a new Kanee\u00a0 tenor saxophone mouthpiece.\u00a0 This is called the &#8220;Florida&#8221; model and is in the Kanee professional series of mouthpieces.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">About a year ago, I reviewed\u00a0 the Kanee O7 and V7 custom tenor mouthpieces.\u00a0 These were great playing mouthpieces that were introduced to the market at a very affordable price. These first models were called the custom series.\u00a0 The florida model I am reviewing today is from the professional series which is a new line from Kanee.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The new Florida models are made out of a brushed hard rubber instead of the shiny glossy hard rubber of the O7 and V7.\u00a0 Also,\u00a0 the side walls are rounded so that these new pieces are more akin to the vintage Otto Link style of mouthpieces.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Kanee mouthpieces are made by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kaneemusic.com\/?p=46#\" target=\"_blank\">Kanee<\/a> company is China. The company was founded in 2004 and specializes in woodwind accessories manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/public.neffmusic.com\/KaneeTop.jpg\" rel=\"shadowbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 0px initial initial;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/public.neffmusic.com\/KaneeTop.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"280\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Kanee &#8220;Florida&#8221; Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Kanee Florida model I have is a 7 tip opening.\u00a0 It came in a nice wood box with a sliding top on it.\u00a0 Inside the box, the mouthpiece is well protected by cushioning on all sides of it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The mouthpiece looks to be very well made.\u00a0 Like I said\u00a0 above,\u00a0 the rubber isn&#8217;t shiny and glossy like the Kanee &#8220;custom&#8221; models but has more of a brushed look to it.\u00a0 I personally think that this look is pretty cool although the rubber does seem to mark easily from ligatures and mouthpieces patches.\u00a0 The table looks flat and the rails and tip look even.\u00a0 The shape of the tip is very close to\u00a0 the shape of my Vandoren Java reed tip which is a good sign.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/public.neffmusic.com\/KaneeChamber.jpg\" rel=\"shadowbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 0px initial initial;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/public.neffmusic.com\/KaneeChamber.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"280\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><strong><strong>Kanee &#8220;Florida&#8221; Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This mouthpiece has a nice and high rollover baffle right at the tip that is very short and then descends down into the medium to large chamber.\u00a0 The baffle and chamber look to be very similar to my Early Babbitt Florida link.\u00a0 To my eye they look to be very close.\u00a0 The only difference that I can see is that my EB Florida link looks to have a larger bore to it.<br \/>\nThe mouthpieces played well and I found it smooth and even up and down the horn.\u00a0 The high rollover baffle at the top of the baffle gives the tone\u00a0 some nice highs and power.\u00a0 It has a bit of a &#8220;zing&#8221; and &#8220;sizzle&#8221; to the tone.\u00a0 The low notes are nice and full sounding.\u00a0 They have a bit of graininess to them that makes the tone more complex sounding to my ear.\u00a0 It was easy to subtone down low.\u00a0 I usually prefer a 7*-8 tip opening so this mouthpiece felt a tiny bit more closed than I am used to but it played great.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/public.neffmusic.com\/KaneeBaffle.jpg\" rel=\"shadowbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 0px initial initial;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/public.neffmusic.com\/KaneeBaffle.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"280\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Kanee Custom Florida Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">These mouthpieces are very reasonably priced for the quality that you get.\u00a0 To get wider market recognition and feedback, the Kanee company is starting another passaround of these mouthpieces on SOTW (Sax on the Web).\u00a0 I can&#8217;t speak for the overall quality of every Kanee piece but the fact that they will send their mouthpieces out to sax professionals and enthusiasts\u00a0 to try&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230; is a sign that they are confidant in their products.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I&#8217;m looking forward to what other sax players that try these mouthpieces have to say.\u00a0 It&#8217;s great to see a quality mouthpiece out there at an affordable price.\u00a0 Keep up the great work Kanee.\u00a0\u00a0 If you would like to try one of these mouthpieces check out the free pass around (you just have to pay for shipping) on SOTW.\u00a0\u00a0 You can also visit the Kanee <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kaneemusic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a> to find out more about these mouthpieces.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><strong><strong>Kanee Custom Florida Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-5672-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/public.neffmusic.com\/Kanee7Tenor.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/public.neffmusic.com\/Kanee7Tenor.mp3\">https:\/\/public.neffmusic.com\/Kanee7Tenor.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today I am reviewing a new Kanee\u00a0 tenor saxophone mouthpiece.\u00a0 This is called the &#8220;Florida&#8221; model and is in the Kanee professional series of mouthpieces.
