I bought Steve’s dominant bebop book and took a couple of online lesson from him. I really appreciated Steve’s careful listening of what I wanted to get done in a lesson and his clear, concise ideas on next steps to improve my playing and musical interpretation.\u00a0 His mastering\u00a0 the Dominant Bebop Scale has lots of exercises to use a scale that addresses the largest percentage of chords I come across in pop\/blues music. The dominant V7.\u00a0 Needless say it has improved my playing.\u00a0 I teach and also have recorded lots of online lessons and Steve’s explaining style and demonstrating ability is top notch. Your lessons on playing the blues is so clear . I have been through many books on blues playing and not one of them explains as clear as your lessons . Though I make my living as a repairer of musical instruments I am a student of jazz and have been fortunate enough to be involved with a big band and a combo for the last several years. I now regret so much to have stayed away from playing the sax for the past 45-50 years…(I am 65).\u00a0 But It is never too late to get back to your first love. First, I’m really excited about your materials! This site is a vast resource for any aspiring (and maybe already inspired) jazz musicians. I’m not a sax player, I play mandolin and fiddle, but have been learning jazz and playing weekly with a quintet for the past 6 months and have been struggling with all of the issues you get into in your lessons. I would like to say that in the last year my sax playing has progressed loads from your lessons. I have had a sax for about 20 years and dabbled with lessons from a few teachers and have learnt very little from them. As you have said in your lessons many teachers tell you to use the blues scale and leave it there, not even showing you the resolution points!!. I am now believing I can in time become a good improviser.<\/div>\n

Two years later I began a search for a sax teacher and happened to come across Steve Neff when I was searching YouTube for sax teachers.\u00a0 I went to neffmusic.com and was very impressed with the lessons Steve Neff was offering.\u00a0 The concept of selecting lessons was an approach that I thought was unique and purchased a few lessons.\u00a0 I liked the lessons so much that I signed-up for a 6 month package.<\/p>\n

I was very happy with all the lessons I selected.\u00a0 I also purchased Steve’s book Mastering the Blues Scale that contains 100 licks or patterns in all 12 keys.\u00a0 I quickly selected the lesson for the overview of the book and the lesson where Steve demonstrates all 100 licks. Hearing them played by Steve was great, since you can hear the various articulations which makes a great difference to the sound of the licks.<\/p>\n

Using the book and corresponding 2 lessons made a dramatic improvement in my soloing that is incredible to say the least.\u00a0 Even my wife and daughter said my playing has improved and they rarely make any comments about my sax playing.\u00a0 My daughter even picked out 3 licks that are her favorites – Unbelievable!<\/p>\n

I strongly recommend to any one who wants to learn to play sax or play better to try a few of Steve’s lessons.\u00a0 You will not regret it.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\t\t\t

I’m an experienced player in the pop\/soul\/funk areas of music and, previously, classical.\u00a0 Over the decades I’ve been playing, I’ve always felt that I could do what I needed in those styles of music.\u00a0 However, recently I began to feel limited by my use of the same old licks. When I discovered Steve Neff’s website, and heard the audio examples based on the exercises in his books, I realized they were what I needed.\u00a0 I purchased all of them and have been working on them since.\u00a0 It’s very hard work – mind crunching sometimes – because I’m memorizing each exercise in every key, and using different rhythms as Steve suggests, but I can see the development taking place and the old barriers starting to break down already.\u00a0 Steve has obviously put so much of his experience and time into these books and I think it’s great that he’s made it all available for others to benefit from.-Paul<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\t\t\t
