Lesson Paths

This is a page to try to create a pathway through the hundreds of lessons on this site.  It is always changing as I add new lessons to the site so please check back regularly.  I will attempt to start at the very beginning and give a logical pathway though the lessons.  Keep in mind that these pathways are constructed to meet the needs of all students and that each individual students pathway might vary and change according to their specific needs.  It is best to seek specific advice and guidance through Skype lessons.      Steve

Beginner Improvisation Lessons

These are lessons for the beginner improviser.  I’m always adding new lessons so these lists will always be growing as I add lessons to the list.  I usually start students on the major scales, then blues scales, then triads and chords and the modes. Usually in that order.  Sometimes I change the order depending on the needs of the specific student.

Major Scales & Triads

Major scales are the foundation of all that we work on from this point forward. It is important to have a firm foundation on the major scale so that you can learn and build off of this foundation later.

Blues Scales

Blues scales are the next step.  I always tell students that if they really know their blues scales and how to improvise with them they can go out and get a gig.  Learn your blues scales!!

Chords

Learning your chords is another  foundational step to becoming a fluent improviser.  These lessons will give you a firm foundation on which to build later…….

Ear Training

Ear training is essential to becoming a great improviser.  Make sure you balance your daily practice with a healthy dose of ear training.

I will be working on adding to this page. Please check back for updates. To see my full list of 600+ lessons they are on this page.    Steve
