This is the forth lesson in a series on learning how to play the saxophone from the very beginning. This series of lessons will be focused on learning the fundamentals of playing the saxophone and developing good habits. This series will be primarily out of the Essential Elements 2000 Book 1 for alto saxophone so you will need that book to work out of. In this lesson I take you through the basics of playing with correct finger position, how to articulate the notes properly and common mistakes and pitfalls that beginners experience. I take you through page 6-7 in the Essential Elements book and talk about the things to be aware of when practicing these pages. We cover quarter notes, half notes, whole notes, half rests, whole rests, playing in phrases and proper breathing technique. I play many of the examples for you to hear and review many of the basics I covered in Lessons 1-3.
